The available documents do not provide a reliably established founding or opening date. They do, however, show how the cemetery’s present role is reflected in municipal regulations and in its range of grave types.
Documented milestones
- 1 September 2022: The currently linked cemetery regulations entered into force, replacing the regulations of 15 December 2010.
- By the end of 2033: The final right of use for the discontinued row graves expires. New burials in this category are no longer permitted.
- June 2026: The city documented 15 grave types available at Waldfriedhof Senden, including capacities, care responsibilities and grave-use fees.
From conventional graves to a differentiated range
The regulations cover individual, children’s and family graves as well as a Muslim burial field. Waldfriedhof Senden also brings together numerous urn and communal options:
- a municipally maintained communal earth grave
- natural urn graves beneath tree crowns
- an anonymous urn field with a central memorial
- an indoor columbarium in the funeral hall
- an outdoor columbarium and urn stelae
- shared and partner tree-and-meadow graves
Funeral hall and columbarium
The funeral hall is used for ceremonies and also houses the indoor columbarium in a side area, with chambers for up to two urns. The cemetery regulations also designate the mortuary at this location for certain medical procedures serving the wider municipal area.
Limits of the historical record
The planning date, opening, original area, landscape design and people involved are not sufficiently documented. Dates and designers from other woodland cemeteries have therefore not been transferred here. This page describes the traceable development of use, not a complete architectural history.
